Q & A
What is Playte?
Playte is a plate that is also a game board, where bites of food serve as game pieces.
Why turn plates into games?
Honestly – because it’s fun! Beyond the fun, the main purpose of Playte is to interest children in their meal, especially those who have difficulty sitting through an entire meal or trying various foods. Through play, Playte gives children a sense of control and choice, and turns meals into a new and positive experience.
What types of games are these?
Most games are original – they were invented specifically to suit food on plates and make meals more exciting. Other games are variations of familiar and beloved games. All games are designed so that food actively participates in the game process, allowing children to eat and play while focusing on their food.
They say it's not good to play with food...
Well, now it’s recommended!
Seriously though... isn't playing with food a bad thing?
Not at all. By centering the game around food, we keep children engaged with their meal. This playful approach improves eating habits, boosts enjoyment and motivation, and even enhances cognitive skills.Experts in psychology and education designed these games to strike a balance between fun and eating. The result is an engaging experience that promotes healthier eating habits and cognitive growth.
Why Playte and not, say, a tablet or smartphone?
Screens captivate children, diverting their attention from meals to digital entertainment. This shift often leads to mindless eating, where children lose track of what and how much they’re consuming. Additionally, such activities create a “private” experience, unlike the shared and pleasant family time that a meal should be, and can be – with Playte.
Who is Playte designed for?
Playte was carefully crafted with specific needs in mind, catering to parents and children who want a fun family meal; for families who don’t want to stop playing, even when it’s mealtime; but especially for:
- Children who have difficulty sitting during meals
- Children who eat too little, too much, or are too picky
- Children with problematic eating habits
- Curious children who love stimulation
- Children on the spectrum (medium-high functioning and above) A detailed explanation can be found here

What is the suitable age range for Playte?
Each set of game plates has a defined suitable age range, from toddlers aged 18 month, up to children aged 10. Each set and each plate specifies the recommended age range.
I don't understand how it works?
It’s a plate that is a game board and the bites of food serve as game pieces. Children eat willingly and by choice according to the game rules. The plates were specially designed to create a precise balance between the eating process and the gaming experience, so the children remain focused on their food.
How do you play?
Each game has its own rules. You can find detailed instructions on the product pages and also downloadable files.
Are the plates, prints... suitable for children?
The plates are made of melamine, which is an organic compound, a type of resin, that is processed to be suitable as a plate. Melamine is considered especially suitable for children as it is durable and doesn’t break easily, doesn’t transfer heat, doesn’t contain BPA, and is dishwasher safe (and between us, that’s a basic condition, right?). The material is approved by the FDA, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Playte’s plates have received approval from the Israeli Standards Institute. Note that to enjoy the good properties of melamine, it’s important not to use the plates in the oven or microwave.
